What:
Along with several domestic violence prevention advocates, Senator Yee will announce legislation to increase the marriage license fee to help bring much-needed dollars to domestic violence shelters. Currently, $23 of each county’s marriage license fee goes to domestic violence shelters. Senator Yee’s bill would raise $2.5 million to $5 million annually. Early this week, Governor Schwarzenegger completely eliminated state funding for domestic violence shelters.
