Public Funding Restored for San Franscico Domestic Violence Against Women Programs PDF Print E-mail

Many thanks to all those who showed up to support our efforts at City Hall

Report from Beverly Upton, Executive Director, San Francisco Domestic Violence Consortium & Partners Ending Domesic Abuse

On June 27, 2008 we had a full team at City Hall by 3:00 PM. DVC supporters left City Hall at 3:45 AM on Friday morning...with the budget cuts fully restored.

It was a wild ride but the team stayed together for as long as it took! They were amazing!

On behalf of everyone involved with the DVC and PEDA, we thank Supervisor Chris Daly, who when our gain was going to be cut in half at the last minute, rose to the occasion, reminded everyone of our ongoing advocacy and the compelling issue of violence against women and gained bipartisan support for restoring all of the cuts.

A vote was taken and $277,286 will be added to the Mayor's contribution of $500,000 to fully restore all of the proposed cuts ($777,286) to the Violence Against Women programs!

We want to thank our board members and supporters for their e-mails and phone calls, the Supervisors and their aides, the Mayors' Office and those who helped to make this process successful from the Commission and the Department on the Status of Women....congratulations to all involved!
